Oaklandside is, and has ALWAYS been fake news. Ditto KQED. They are propaganda for the corrupt failing progressive cabal that controls Oakland.

As someone who does not watch local news or read the SF Chronicle I see that I am missing important information by only relying on Oaklandside.

Hi Leila -- thank you for your comment. Yes, it is challenging to keep abreast of local news in Oakland. Clicking through dozens of sites to scrape together a complete understanding of Oakland is time-consuming and painful.

That's why Oakland Report recently launched Newsstand, a curated list of current news items from across the spectrum:

(See also the "Newsstand" tab at the top of the page.)

Thank you again for your comment, and for reading Oakland Report.

I have found Oaklandside to consistently mirror the liberal to progressive positions of those who have run Oakland for the past 2 decades or so. So the reluctance to feature crime stories is not surprising.

We pretty regularly watch one or two of the TV local newscasts, usually KPIX at noon or one of the evening broadcasts.

Nearly all local TV news covers major crime stories pretty well.

I've heard that the economic model of TV news is holding up much better than that of print media. I wonder why this Oakland Report article did not include this more successful format.

Thanks for your comment.

I chose the comparison outlets to include a range of types of media and did include one tv station (KTVU). Not all tv stations include every local tv story in online printed or video format, which is a limitation to historical searching of tv outlets.

The rationale for selection of the news outlets is detailed in the Appendix.

Thanks Rajni and Oakland Report for another great article. Your reporting is so important for those of us who live in Oakland. The violent crimes in Oakland touch all of us. The rate of violent crimes has to stop. Mindy Pechenuk, for Oakland Mayor 2026
