The lawsuit accuses the City of using SEIU Local 1021 to “front” what should have been a Council-sponsored parcel tax — and burying the evidence by ignoring nearly every Public Records Act request.
A logical continuation of the past twenty years. The Oakland City Government has become a wholly owned subsidiary of SEIU 1021 and adjacent public employee unions. The only question is whether it was a hostile takeover or simply a merger and acquisition.
First they came for the 'Landlords' and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a landlord. Then they came for large corporations and I didn't speak up (and they all moved out of Oakland!) Then they came for the small business owners and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a small business owner. Then they came for homeowners like me and there was nobody left to speak up.
It's unfortunate that this group has a bad name among many urban Bay Area voters. Bad branding, bad marketing, bad associations (Jarvis, for example.). But that doesn't take away from the validity of their complaint here.
I get it, the city is run terribly and has been historically corrupt so the answer to its problems are going to be complicated. It’ll be worse as time goes by until people find some good leadership which will still require money because that’s what drives good and bad government.

Anti tax force in Oakland remains historically anti union
I've voted for some of these taxes, only to see a bait and switch that didnt deliver what was promised.
Far too long, we've had activists running the city and it is clear they cannot govern, let alone tell the truth and admit they made mistakes.
Instead, its always, "we need more of your money".
No more.
