Despite your disappointment at the shortfalls in the original article, I personally feel rather upbeat about a community writing platform that brings out the best in all of us and helps us eventually reach a useful consensus based on some truth. Thank you for taking the time to write such a useful response. Another fascinating Oakland conversation that we are all now party to. 👍👍

No matter the size, day/night digital billboards certainly have no place in residential areas.

In general, though, they are a blight on the earth and shouldn't be permitted anywhere.

Something which has been totally ignored. There’s a reason why people are not allowed to text message while you’re driving. But what about being distracted by billboards which flood you with advertising?

Every time you look at the billboard, you’re not looking at the traffic in front of you. That should be absolutely Illegal for that single reason.

And just because the City of Oakland wants to make money, that should not give them the right to impose the horror on people who have to live next to it.

Could you please post the address to which we send our comments to the city council. I agree that the billboards would be misplaced there, especially in the forested area that that gateway (13 at 24) is.
