Thursday morning, I found out that the rear plate of my car was stolen so I called the non-emergency line. "INVALID NUMBER" was the response - I re-dialed and got the same response. I tried the other non-emergency line (for cell phones) and received the same response.
Because you cant report stolen plates online, I decided to try 911 since I wanted OPD to be aware of the stolen plates asap. I was very surprised that the call was picked up in less than 1 minute!
In late afternoon, I learned that the AT&T cables were cut so 911 calls had to be routed to the county. This explains the prompt response for my 911 call and I found it very sad and frightening that our city is not functional in so many aspects.
For once, the criminals did a favor for Oaklanders.
Wow if the Oakland Teacher’s union cares so much about the Oakland school system, why don’t they make a one time donation to OUSD to help with the budget issues the system faces? I am disgusted that they are sitting on a half billion dollars of assets, largely pulled out of the paychecks of Oakland teachers and their primary objective is to get a pro-union Board majority who will grant outsized raises which will deepen the financial crisis the district is facing. And increase their assets no doubt. I bet these folks are complaining all the time about billionaires (I’m not a fan either) but are behaving just like the billionaires by hoarding their money. Next question to explore: let’s find out the salaries and compensation packages of the teacher’s unions bosses.
Based on the truly random criteria (population) used to compare City Council member salaries, Council members in Stockton should be paid less than $20,000 a year - comparable to LA.
