Thanks again, Mr. Gardner. I suspect this report would never have been released without your reporting last week. Really daunting, unsurprising, critical information.

A *minimum* off 277 more than currently authorized. Think about that - 47% increase over current staffing - next time someone gets jacked outside your house, or a business you love leaves, or you think about selling your home after another 3am sideshow on Sunday night before you got to go to work. Absolutely negligent "LeAdErShIp" the past several years.

Why is a typical police officer “on leave” for 8 weeks out of the year? This is on top of “vacation” which is listed separately! What are they doing during that time? Are they getting paid?

I suspect this is because roughly 50-80 officers are on various forms of long term leave - most are “administrative” leave because of the high frequency of complaint and low-level use of force investigations required by the NSA. So this averages out 8 weeks per officer, not that every officer is taking 8 weeks. It’s basically an additional unrecognized cost of the NSA — $Ms of Oakland residents’ money.
