If anyone can find another self-described "news" outlet that does this important level of reporting, please tell me.

LOVE the Oakland report! To answer your question, Gotham Oakland has been covering this Grand Jury report since it came out last summer. I also broke the Kentucky coal lawsuit story, among a few others. Check us out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXc29ZFu-CY

Thank you for another extraordinary piece of reporting. This is by far the best analysis of city business available to the public in a short and convenient form.

Agreed some form of charter reform is necessary. I’d be interested in getting an update on your thoughts if you’d like to jump on a call.

I wonder if out new mayor would like to comment on this and if she’s going to do anything to help?

Oakland’s financial mismanagement and dysfunction is rooted in and can be traced back to the city’s flawed charter.

To get back on track, Oakland should embrace and adopt the NCL’s Model Charter.

The charter is irrelevant when the mayor and city council are aligned Steven. And you know this. Stop trying to run cover for incompetence and corruption in city hall. Please and thank you.

Also, I’m the only person to ever run for office (mayor 2022) on a charter amendment, where were you then?

Why have you ignored my communication? No way you don’t know exactly who I am.

I smell controlled opposition and I believe you are trying to cover for a corruption and incompetence in City Hall.

In 2024, when I was campaigning for D1 council, I met a former department head in Libby's administration. We discussed the continuing failure of City Hall to address the structural deficit.

Over the years, he would see Budget Dept staff present interim, two-year, and 5 year revenue forecasts, which required either cuts in expenditures or revenue increases.

Council would thank staff and proceed to make up their own revenue assumptions out of thin air to balance the budget.

I don't see how your proposed charter amendment to revert to a city manager structure by itself would require the council to use realistic assumptions that resulted in a long term sustainable fisc.

A combination of my D1 race platform item of a charter amendment requiring all budgets to get certified by the City Auditor to be consistent with the City Budget Dept projections as approved by the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, with your amendment might be optimum.
